Built to fail safe when it matters
In a fire, the damper has to reach its safe position whether or not power and control are still there. Firbeson fire and smoke actuators are built for this, and for the testing and sign-off that follows.
Fail-safe spring return
A charged spring drives the damper to its predetermined safe position on loss of power or control signal, in under 30 seconds (F30S and F30F).
72°C thermal sensor (F30F)
Two independent probes, one ambient and one in the duct, close the damper if either reads above 72°C, regardless of the control signal.
Feedback for drop tests
Two SPDT auxiliary switches report open and closed position to the fire alarm panel or BMS, so periodic drop tests can be verified without accessing the damper.
Manual override for commissioning
A locking key sets and holds the damper during commissioning and periodic testing, then releases it back to automatic operation.
The range & specification
Three series for fire and smoke duties
The range covers fire compartmentation, smoke extraction and fail-safe ventilation, with torque ratings from 3.5 to 40 Nm. Two spring-return series provide a defined safe position on loss of power, and a non-spring series covers higher-torque smoke damper installations where a motorised return is specified.
The F30S is the general spring-return actuator. The F30F adds the features specific to fire and smoke duty: two SPDT auxiliary switches as standard and the optional 72°C thermal sensor. The F30N is non-spring return, from 10 to 40 Nm, for larger smoke dampers driven by a motorised return.
